Outside - 2017

Last winter season the Cetol came off all the wood so we refinished some of the wood with CPES and Bristol Finish. The Bristol finish looked like new after 6 months.
So I decided to refinish all the wood that had been unprotected by Cetol.

Hawse ring covered in Bristol Finish an freshly painted bulwarks.

Starboard stairs to aft deck redone. Fresh paint on cabin side.

Port stairs to aft deck redone. Fresh paint on cabin side. This is what the wood work looked like on the starboard pilot house. What caused this ? Take a look at the next picture.

See the dirt at the bottom edge. Wet leaves and dirt piled up and wicked up into the edge of the wood. So the fix will be to affix a strip of fiberglass along the bottom edge and up a few inches. This will make it water tight. Then overtop the fiberglass, install a bottom frame for the wood panel. All done.

Work in progress on the port side. Bottom framework in place, checking to make sure the panels will fit before finishing with Bristol. All done.

Deck was first fared out then cleaned and painted.
The no skid surface is created using paint and sand. First we tape off the area to receive the no skid, then apply the paint. While the paint is wet we sprinkle play ground sand over top and lightly press it in with a roller.
This picture shows the bow pattern to form the no-skid sections.
Port side taped. What fun !! Gnettie did the rounding edges.

Starboard side done. Now for the sand. Port side showing new sandy surface.

Starboard side. Bow section sand applied. Now let it dry a few days, vacuum up loose sand and paint it, sealing in the grains of sand.

Port side completed. Starboard side completed.
